Banks & ATM Cards

Inform your bank immediately after your wallet or purse is stolen or lost. Tell them what bank account information (including account numbers), ATM cards, or checks it contained.

  • Cancel any existing checking and savings accounts and open new ones.
  • Stop payments on your outstanding checks and inform your check recipients.
  • Get a new ATM card with a new account number, and PIN or password.

When travelling, leave your checkbook at home. In addition to fraudulently using your checks, an identity thief can easily order new checks and have them mailed to an address other than your own.
